Halogen headlights
Let’s talk about the relatively entry-level halogen headlights first. Halogen headlights are essentially an upgraded version of incandescent lamps. The addition of halogen gas solves the problem of incandescent lamps having a short lifespan and easily turning black. The advantage of halogen lamps is that they are low in cost and easy to produce. It is easy, and because the halogen lamp is yellow light, its penetrating power is stronger than that of xenon lamps and LED lamps, but its disadvantages are low brightness and short life.
Xenon headlights
Let’s talk about xenon headlights. There is a part in xenon headlights called a ballast. When the xenon light is turned on, the safety device can instantly increase the voltage in the car from 12 volts to 23,000 volts, using high-intensity voltage to light up the HID. The light bulb emits high-brightness lighting, so the brightness of xenon lamps can reach 4-6 times that of halogen headlights. At the same time, the temperature is also very high, reaching 300 to 400 degrees, and the power consumption will be relatively high. One disadvantage of xenon lamps is that they start slowly and cannot reach maximum brightness as soon as they are started.
LED headlights
Finally, let’s talk about LED headlights, halogen headlights and xenon lamps. The luminous principle is to convert electrical energy into thermal energy, and then convert thermal energy into light energy. LED headlights convert electrical energy directly into light energy through the LED chip, eliminating the step of converting heat energy. Therefore, LED headlights are also called cold light sources, and the working temperature is generally 50 to 70 degrees Celsius. In terms of brightness, LED headlights are not much different from new xenon lamps. The brightness is definitely enough, and the energy-saving performance is stable. It starts quickly without delay. LED headlights can also be shaped into cool shapes, which are very beautiful. Because LED headlights The advantages of high brightness, stable energy saving and long life have become more and more popular nowadays. Not only cars, but also all kinds of lights we use daily are popular with LED, so it can be said that LED lights are the best light source at present.
Summarize
Having said all that, we should have a certain understanding of the types of car lights this time, because most car models use halogen lights from the factory. The reason is very simple, low cost. Many customers call them candle lights, and the brightness is really unsatisfactory. For daily use, most customers switch to xenon lamps or LED lamps. I recommend everyone to use LED lamps. The benefits are:
Energy saving
Environmental protection
Safety
Long life
Quick start
The most fundamental function of headlights is lighting, and good lighting can ensure safety. Changing lights is to make driving safer, and safety is not just about lighting up. Let’s first talk about a few terms closely related to car headlights: color temperature, wavelength, CRI and lumens. Be patient and you will definitely gain something.
Key point: The parameters 4000K, 5000K, and 6000K are color temperature units, which are related to the penetrating power of the headlights in rainy and foggy weather, and have nothing to do with brightness!!
Color temperature: It is a physical quantity used to define the color of a light source in lighting optics, and its unit is expressed in "K" (Kelvin temperature unit). The color temperature of the light source is different, the color of the light is also different, and the feelings it brings are also different.
Color temperature determines the color of the light, and color determines the penetrating power of the light.
Different color temperatures emit different colors. A 3000K halogen lamp emits yellow light, a 5000K LED headlight emits a white light that is close to the midday sun, and a 6500K LED headlight emits a bluish white light. Personal recommendation: In cities with a lot of rain and fog, LED headlights with a color temperature of 4000K are recommended, which have both penetration and brightness; in northern cities with dry weather and less rain and fog, LED headlights with a color temperature of 5000K are recommended; as for 6500K color temperature LED headlights In addition to being good-looking, headlights are not as practical as low color temperatures, and their penetrating power is weak (for the same lamp, color temperature has nothing to do with brightness. No matter how many K the color temperature is, the brightness is the same. The brightness is directly determined by lumens, which will be discussed later)
Key point: The lumen value represents the brightness.
Lumens (also called luminous flux), in a word, the higher the lumens, the brighter the light. 1 lumen is equivalent to the luminous intensity of an ordinary candle.
Under normal circumstances, the lumen value of halogen lamps is between 800 and 1,000. The lumen value of LED headlights is 2 to 3 times that of halogen lamps. The lumen value of xenon lamps can easily reach more than 3,200.
Key point: Light shape and brightness jointly determine the irradiation distance of car headlights
The brighter the car lights, the better. On the contrary, when the brightness reaches a certain level, it can even cause temporary blindness in the other person's eyes. This is a very taboo safety hazard for cars that often need to meet other cars. Moreover, even if it can illuminate one kilometer ahead, the driver sitting in the car can only observe objects within 200 to 300 meters ahead. Therefore, a good car light should have just the right brightness, good penetration, and perfectly match the original car light reflector to emit the most ideal light pattern.
