Automobile body structures are classified into the following categories: hatchbacks, sedans, hatchbacks, station wagons, sports cars, hard-top convertibles, soft-top convertibles, MPV and SUV.

Hatchback

A hatchback is a car in which the cabin and the trunk are made into the same body, and the engine is arranged independently. This layout can increase the space inside the car, so it is often used in small cars and compact cars.

Sedan

A sedan is the standard form of a sedan. Its body structure is composed of three mutually enclosed "compartments" with different purposes: the engine compartment at the front, the passenger compartment in the middle of the body, and the luggage compartment at the rear. In foreign countries, sedans are usually called Sedan or Saloon.

Hatchback

Domestic hatchbacks are those that are similar in appearance to sedans and also have a protruding trunk, but the entire trunk lid and rear window glass are integrated and can be opened together. In foreign countries, they are usually called Quickback or Fastback. The relatively short trunk and relatively dynamic tail lines make the hatchback visually better than the sedan.

Station wagon

Most station wagons are based on sedans, with the sedan's trunk raised to be flush with the roof to increase luggage space. The advantage of a station wagon is that it has the comfort of a sedan and considerable luggage space.

Sports car

Sports cars are generally a two-door design with a low body, smooth shape, and a strong sense of sportiness. The seats are two-seater or 2+2 design. The obvious difference from other models is that the sports car’s engine can have a front-mounted engine. There are three types of roofs: hard top, hard top convertible and soft top convertible.

Soft top convertible

Soft-top convertibles are usually two-door, two-seater or two-door, four-seater designs. The roof material is usually canvas, vinyl or plastic, with foldable brackets. There are two types of retraction and retraction of the roof: manual and electric.

Hardtop convertible

A hard-top convertible is a car with a metal roof that automatically folds and is placed in the trunk. When the hood is closed, the shape is not much different from an ordinary sports car.

SUV

SUV is the abbreviation of Sport Utility Vehicle. It means sports utility vehicle in Chinese. It is a vehicle that has the comfort and space of a station wagon and a certain off-road capability. Today's SUV generally refers to those produced based on the car platform. , to a certain extent, it has the comfort of a car and the passability of an off-road vehicle.

MPV

MPV refers to Multi-Purpose Vehicles. From its origin, MPV gradually evolved from a station wagon. It combines the large passenger space of a station wagon, the comfort of a car, and the functions of a van. , generally a hatchback structure.

There are obvious differences between MPV and van. The van has a single-box structure, that is, the passenger space and the engine are in a single frame structure, and the engine is placed behind the driver's seat. With this layout, the car body structure is simple, but the height of the vehicle is relatively increased, and the space inside the vehicle is increased. The engine noise is relatively loud, and because the front seats are at the front of the vehicle, it is difficult to drive in the event of a frontal collision. The buffer space in front of the passengers and front passengers is very small, so the safety factor is low.

Today's MPV must first have a hatchback structure. The layout is based on the car structure. Generally, the chassis and engine of the car are directly used. Therefore, it has a similar appearance and the same driving and riding comfort as a car. Since the frontmost part of the car body is the engine compartment, it can effectively buffer the impact from the front and protect the safety of the front row passengers. Many MPV are produced on sedan platforms.
